Connect Claude Desktop (local)

Updated 2026-10-17

To run the server on your own machine with npx, add it to Claude Desktop's config file.

Steps

  1. From the Claude menu open Settings → Developer → Edit Config. The file is ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json on macOS and %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json on Windows.
  2. Add the block below inside mcpServers. If the file already has other servers, add only the thefaceanalysis entry.
  3. Quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. The server appears under the + menu in the chat box, Connectors → Manage connectors.

Configuration

claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thefaceanalysis": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "thefaceanalysis-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Check it works

Ask: “Using The Face Analysis, what is the median fWHR across your 102 reference faces?” The answer should be 1.78.

If it does not connect, read the logs: ~/Library/Logs/Claude/mcp*.log on macOS, %APPDATA%\Claude\logs on Windows. Node.js must be installed (node --version).

Source for the Claude Desktop (local) syntax: MCP: connect to local servers. Client menus and file locations change; if a step no longer matches, follow that page and tell us on GitHub.
