Connect VS Code

Updated 2026-10-17

The workspace file is .vscode/mcp.json. Its top-level key is servers, not mcpServers.

Steps

  1. Create .vscode/mcp.json in the project root and paste one of the blocks below. The MCP: Add Server command in the Command Palette walks through the same setup.
  2. Start the server with the Start link that appears above it in the file. The tools show up in Copilot Chat's Agent mode.
  3. To add the local server to your user profile instead of one workspace, use the command-line form.

Configuration

Hosted (recommended)
{
  "servers": {
    "thefaceanalysis": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.thefaceanalysis.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
Local (npx)
{
  "servers": {
    "thefaceanalysis": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "thefaceanalysis-mcp"]
    }
  }
}
User profile (local)
code --add-mcp "{\"name\":\"thefaceanalysis\",\"command\":\"npx\",\"args\":[\"-y\",\"thefaceanalysis-mcp\"]}"

Check it works

Ask: “Using The Face Analysis, what is the median fWHR across your 102 reference faces?” The answer should be 1.78.
